Digital Impressions for Dental Crowns Parker Dental Group

Digital Impressions for Dental Crowns

Until a few years ago, crowns were created by impressions that were taken manually in a dentist’s office. Today, technology has advanced and your dentist can take impressions of your teeth digitally under ideal conditions. This cutting-edge technology uses virtual, computer-generated replicas of the hard and soft tissues of the tooth using lasers and other high-tech scanning devices.

All cases are not candidates for digital crowns. Certain conditions prohibit scanning teeth and traditional impressions may still need to done.

Why Digital Impressions?

Crown digital impressions are efficient, accurate and give dentists the ability to email their results directly to the laboratory responsible for creating the dental crown. It eliminates the need for physical impressions. Some benefits of using this technology include:

  • Improved image quality for better-fitting crowns
  • Less time the patient is required to sit in the dentist’s chair
  • No more awkward mouthpieces and waiting for the impression to set. Also, digital impressions eliminate the hassles of impression materials or patients feeling like they are gagging. Patients with severe gag reflexes make excellent candidates for digital impressions.
  • Improved accuracy and the elimination of errors during the process of taking the impression
  • Improved patient retention – patients tend to go back to dental offices that used advanced technology and are constantly innovating in their practice
  • Quick scanning – often done in under five minutes

Scheduling Your Appointment for a Digital Impression

CBCT-Cone-Beam-Technology-Scan-Dental-Procedure

Cone Beam CT (CBCT) Imaging

Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) is one of the many advanced tools used at the Parker Dental Group. The CBCT allows us a greater understanding of our patients and moving imaging beyond pure diagnosis to include planned treatment simulations and image guided treatments. 3D imaging greatly improves our doctor’s abilities to accurately diagnose any dental condition. The detailed diagnostic images that CBCT provides have made it an essential tool in many dental specialties. But, as with any diagnostic tool that uses radiation, the medical benefits offered must be weighed against the (small) potential risks of the procedure.

Where Cone Beam CT Is Used

The ability to see fine anatomical structures in 3-D has proven invaluable in treating conditions in many areas of dentistry.

  • Orthodontics: Having accurate information on the position of teeth and jaws helps determine exactly how and where teeth should be moved.
  • Dental implants: Detailed CBCT images are used to determine the optimum location for the titanium implants while avoiding nerves, sinuses and areas of low bone density.
  • Orthognathic Jaw Surgery and Temporo-mandibular Joint (TMJ) Disease: Patients benefit when the specialists who treat these conditions can evaluate their anatomy with the three-dimensional perspective that cone beam CT provides.
  • Oral Surgery: Treatment for tumors or impacted teeth is aided by the level of fine detail shown in these scans.
  • Endodontics: Dentists performing intricate procedures (like complex root canals, for example) can benefit from a clearer visualization of the tooth's anatomy.
  • Sleep Apnea: Imaging the tissues and structures of the nose, mouth and throat can aid in diagnosis and treatment of this dangerous condition.

Could Cone Beam CT Benefit You?

Each patient's situation is different, and must be carefully considered by a clinical professional before any test or procedure is performed. While CBCT delivers a smaller dose of radiation (X-rays) than many other diagnostic tests, it still carries a small risk — particularly for younger patients, or those with other health problems. As is the case for any medical procedure, all risks, benefits and alternatives are taken into account before the procedure is recommended.

CBCT-Cone-Beam-Technology-IV-Sedation

Sedation Dentistry

Whatever your individual level of anxiety may be, our office is committed to making sure that your visit is as comfortable, quick and easy as possible. There are many solutions for dental anxiety, and we are ready to help.

3 Levels of Sedation

Nitrous Oxide

Also commonly referred to as “laughing gas”, this method is ideal for those requiring quick recovery following a procedure. Nitrous oxide can be administered and quickly flushed out by oxygen within minutes. Nitrous oxide is FREE for all patients during operative produces. Following a nitrous oxide treatment, the patient will be as alert and bright-eyed as upon arrival. Nitrous oxide sedation is extremely safe and works great for both kids and adults.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation dentistry comprises of a tiny pill(s), which is safe and will allow you to undergo multiple procedures at once, and you won’t even know you went to the dentist! These tiny pills calm all nerves and takes you into a twilight sedated state. While you’re sedated, our team of dentists performs your procedures. When you “wake up” you’re back home and comfortable. It’s that simple! All we request is the patient to have a driver on the day of the procedure. As with the nitrous, oral sedation at our office is FREE of charge. A prescription will be given to the patient and he or she can have it conveniently filled at a pharmacy of their choice, usually covered under their medical insurance.

IV Sedation

The most comprehensive – and safest – sedation procedure. By having direct access to your circulatory system, we can take you to a deeper level of sedation by using modern sedation medications, such as Versed, Fentanyl, and Toradol, etc. Your blood pressure, heart rate, and the amount of oxygen in your blood are continuously monitored by the Parker Dental Group team.

Here are a few popular methods for easing anxiety in the dental office

  • Communication : Informing us as to what you are afraid of is a great place to start. Often we can quell a fear simply by giving you correct or updated information. We will always keep you informed before, during and after your procedure, making sure that you understand what is going on and why we are doing it.
  • Calming Techniques : Many patients find it helpful to practice controlled breathing or to find distraction inside the room.
  • Listening to Music : With most procedures, the use of personal headphones and music is allowed. This is a great way to keep calm and pass the time while in the chair.
  • Oral Sedation/IV Sedation : Depending on the nature of your procedure, various types of sedation may be available to you including oral sedation.
  • Taking Breaks : Let us know if you would like to take a short break during your treatment by signaling with your left hand.

Sedation dentistry is also a great option for the elderly, the disabled, or simply- the fearful!

Sedation Dentistry for the Fearful

Dental phobia is a real, often overwhelming reality for thousands of people. Negative previous dental experiences, fear of needles or drills, and severe gag reflexes are just some of the reasons people feel extreme anxiety when thinking about visiting the dentist.

If you suffer from dental phobia- fear no more! At the Parker Dental group, we are committed to understanding the very real nature of your fears. Not only will our staff treat you with delicacy and care, our sedation options will allow you to experience dentistry in a whole new way.

Parker-Dental-Group-3D-Printing

3D Printing

We are always looking for the very best technology to improve our patient care. 3D printing is the last piece of our trio of 3D technologies that we use (in addition to 3D X-rays and 3D optical scanning of your teeth). All of these technologies allow us to provide the very best treatments for our patients.

Being able to 3D print in our office, eliminates the slow process of sending 3D scans out to a lab to print and then having to ship the models back to our office. Now, we can print them quickly in office. Printing models allows us to eliminate the vast majority of impressions in our office, which people are always grateful for.

Finally, the improved accuracy of the printed models vs. stone models creates a better fit. This allows you to maintain that beautiful smile that you worked so hard for.
